Lukewarm
Halfway through drinking my morning coffee I often get distracted, and when I come back to it it’s lukewarm. Not cold enough to be iced coffee, and not warm enough to be the hot beverage it was intended to be. I have to heat it back up to make it palatable again.
Upon reflection I find this state of being “lukewarm” to apply to much more than just my coffee!
Like with my faith sometimes. I don’t really forget about the Lord, but sometimes I shortcut time with Him or don’t give that time my full attention. And with my diet. I commit to eating healthy but just sort of do it. Or like staying in touch with old friends. I like their posts on social media and stop to think about how much they mean to me, but then I don’t reach out to say hello.
I’m not beating myself up about these things; I know how important it is to give myself a little grace (see last week’s topic). But as a midlife creative who has cultivated a sense of focus and purpose, I want to be more intentional about the way I walk through my days. I want to engage fully. I want to commit fully. I want to stay heated up! Because this posture carries over into my creative works and their impact.
It’s time to get off the fence, friends, and stay heated up in the areas that matter. Let’s do it together.
Reflection Question:
What are a few areas of your life where you find yourself being consistently lukewarm? Choose a couple that are highest priority to you and give them more consistent effort. Try posting a note somewhere you will see it to remind yourself.
Revelations 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
