Where I end, my hope begins…

Perfect love

You found me again

You chased me down around

Dark corners of my heart

And where I end

My hope begins

You see the good in me

When all I see is failure

I wrote these words as the first verse of my song “Perfect Love.” Wow, do they resonate with me. I judge myself harshly and see failure in everything I do. That’s what life looks like when I try to do it alone. But where I end, my hope begins, and the Lord’s perfect love comes in and softens my self-criticism. It also reorganizes my out-of-whack thoughts to remind me what is truly important. And it does, astoundingly, see the good in me and remind me whose I am.

I want to invite you to listen to “Perfect Love” this week (I’ve linked the lyric video below) and let the words of this song pour over you. May you be blessed as you are reminded of what His perfect love can do.

Reflection Questions

Do you resonate with the lyrics above, too? As creatives seeking to live out our calling, we’re often hard on ourselves, because we want to create with excellence. Can you think of situations where you’re typically hard on yourself and need God’s perfect love to affirm you?

Fear of failure is something we all wrestle with…at least I do. This song addresses fear and failure and replaces them with perfect love. How does this make you feel? Hopeful? Peaceful? What else?

This is a song for many seasons. I find that different parts of the song stand out to me depending on what I’m going through at the time. As you listen to “Perfect Love,” what lyrics seem most relevant to your life right now? Why?

1 John 4:18  There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
