You’ll Find Me There
Last week I shared the lyric video for “You’ll Find Me There” on Facebook and Instagram, so I thought I’d tell you a little about this song that means so much to me.
I wrote it to explore social justice from a Biblical perspective. I used the fruits of the spirit as guiding principles (what better guide could there be?!). I wrote it first as a poem, and I was honored to be named a 2023 Woody Guthrie Poet for it. I then decided I wanted to put it on my Herald album, so I partnered with my producer, the uber talented Karl Anderson, to make it happen. You can listen to the song at the bottom of this blog, and the lyrics are as follows:
You’ll Find Me There
by Kim Gentry Meyer and Karl Anderson
Verse 1
When your prayers are more than habit
And my verses more than lines
When communion’s more than kneeling
To take the bread and wine
You’ll find me there
You’ll find me there
Verse 2
When there’s peace instead of slander
And you seek to understand
When you care for all creation
When you lend a helping hand
You’ll find me there
You’ll find me there
Verse 3
When the weight is on your shoulders
And the poor become your own
When you choose to love the haters
And you take the higher road
You’ll find me there
You’ll find me there
Verse 4
When your treasures bless my Kingdom
Instead of earthly gain
When your joy is found in serving
And you give instead of take
You’ll find me there
You’ll find me there
These lyrics challenge me, motivate me, and most of all encourage me to think about what’s possible when we live out the fruits of the spirit in our daily lives. I hope these lyrics encourage you, too.
